Another One Bites The Dust

May 25th, 2005 2

Rob’s just had his first year anniversary. A year?! Where did that go? And then, last weekend, his sister got married (which was awesome, really nice church and a huge reception at an old country estate). Next weekend it’s Lee’s turn, and I’ve already got invitations to two more this summer.

When did I get old enough for my friends to start getting married and having kids? Not only that but getting proper grown-up jobs, houses, 2 cars, mortgages, life-insurance and other things that my parents have but I’m obviously too young to deal with. But i’m not anymore…

So this got me thinking, when (if ever) do you start thinking of yourself as an adult? I mean you hear those “older” folks (of which I guess I’m no one) talking about how they’ve felt 16 all their lives, but I’ve never really thought that would happen to me. I always thought this was something people said, but you’d feel older, you’d know you were a growed-up. But apparently not. Oh well, here’s to many more years (at least) of thinking and feeling like a 16 year old. Anyone get served in the offie?

There’s nothing wrong with feeling ‘like’ a 16 year old…..especially if she’s fit ;)

But seriously, I know what you mean it is weird that our friends are starting to get married and have babies. Maybe we are really starting to get old.
Some things i’ve noticed these days

  • Drinking isnt as much fun and the hangover lasts for twice the amount of time.
  • If I trip over, it now aches for several days rather than several seconds
  • I actually feel quite pleased with myself if I get asked for ID
  • I actually genuinly have to have a shave to avoid looking like a scruff
  • I often look like a scruff
  • People expect me to behave and conduct myself in a sensible manner…..I struggle with this!

However there are some advantages

  • My Car insurance no longer costs more than my car!
  • I can sit and have a quiet pint with my mates and actually enjoy myself and be content just sitting there chating
  • I have the knowledge to know that baseball caps and orange tracksuits just look crap!
  • And perhaps most importantly I can sit here at my desk doing bugger all but look OLD enough for people to assume i’m working my fingers to the bone!

So I say bring it on, cause I have a sneaky feeling the best years are probably yet to come.

At a mear 17, i realised this week that i don’t want to become 18 just yet…from events that have happened lately. Crazy people in walsall think i look sweet and innocent, and about 20! so they pounce and ask for age and if i will fill in some stupid questionnaire. As soon as i say im only 17, they look at me to see if im being sarcastic then they say very apoligetically that im too young to waste my time, out in the freezing cold talking about washing powder i use or the tea i like to drink. Its great!! i dont get ID’d for anything, and never have, because i look too mature! lol.. how wrong are they?! it’s great now, but if i end up looking 40 at just 25 i wont be impressed!!!
