The Long Dead Art of Photography

August 1st, 2006 11

Ah, I used to love a bit of photography, getting down in the mud to get that perfect low angle sharp focus background, soft foreground shot (you know the sort). But then, it all stopped. My Flickr became a bit of a waste ground of random holiday shots and friends eating ice cream.

So then what to do? Well, If it’s anything like all my other “creative” ideas it’s simply to stop the boredom at work when the clients are procrastinating. Nevertheless, I have made a start! Armed with a couple of photos of Katie and good old Photoshop 7 I made this…

Photoshopping

… Okay, so maybe it isn’t the most creative idea in the world, but with other my friends out doing me at every turn, I’ve gotta start catching up!

Yeah, instead of messing about with PhotoShop, I’d rather see you getting down in the mud again, and taking some more of that awesome photography.

coComment enabled eh? I wonder where you got that idea…? Checky.

I’m with Paul. Photoshop has it’s place in creative expression but in times when the camera can lie through it’s teeth, I love to see images that have been captured, rather than manipulated.

Thanks Hann! Obviously my attempt at creativity has met with less than the usual enthusiasm. Oh well, back to the drawing board…

Personally Jon I’ve always loved the diversity of both your photos and your photo manipulations. Particular favourites that spring to mind is the black & white shot at Cosford taken form under the aircraft with the empty bench in the background and Hann gazing upwards. A poetically beautiful image in my opinion.

Plus I also very much enjoyed the Lego Men images!

Get out and take some real photos Jon!

I love the photoshop stuff, but having someone take real shots with a proper clunking camera while I was in Anglesey…
Well, it reminded me how marvellous it is to look at something that hasn’t been tampered with and know that it came out that awesome simply because to person who took them has an eye for spotting the stunning, surprising or downright cool in a world that could be very drab indeed.
