Beware The Tent Monster

July 25th, 2006

More adventures from our weekend of camping…

Beware when you’re out and about in the wilds of Bakewell, you may just chance to meet the infamous tent monster. I’ve heard there’s a hefty reward for his capture, but none of use were brave enough to attempt it after it eat Steph. We’ll miss ya girl… sniff.

Update: Thanks to Dan, we now have freedom from the evil You Tube!

A Short Rant

July 25th, 2006

In an attempt to cut living cost I’m trying to sell my car, it just drinks petrol. So yesterday I got it valued on the “wonderful” Glass’s Motoring Guide Website. Glass’s bill themselves as

The leading European provider of the information you need for one of your biggest purchasing decisions.

Well, you’d think they’d have some money to spend on a decent website then wouldn’t you? Nonetheless, I forged ahead, and entered all my details, and duly paid the £2.99 using my switch card. Pressing the submit button, I sat back to wait for my valuation to instantly pop up on the screen. And I waited. Then waited some more.

When it became clear that they’d taken my money and ran, I click on the “contact us” link, hoping to find a telephone number so I could call them and politely ask them what happened. But no, only an address and a feedback form greeted me. 7 hours later I received a reply, which said…

Dear Jon

Thank you for your e-mail.

Please may we have a few more details to help us locate your valuation.

Information requested -

MAKE
MODEL
ENGINE SIZE
MILEAGE
DOORS

Within seconds I’d sent them this information. And I waited. And then waited some more. (this seems to be a recurring theme with them). So as it stands at the moment they’ve stolen £2.99 from me. Brilliant! So my recommendation? NEVER use this website, in fact use their fine competors, they’re sure NOT to rip you off!

Bakewell Weekender

July 24th, 2006

Happy Campers!

Has it really been over 12 months since I last went camping? But it was certainly worth the wait! Last week we’d had some of the hottest temperatures on record, and looking forward to a camp weekend was just the thing I needed to get me through the work week.

As the weekend approached, it got hotter and hotter and as temperatures soared to the mid 30s the good old bbc weather told me there was torrential rain forecast for Saturday in Derbyshire. Well, the weather didn’t disappoint! Amazing lightening and the welcome refreshment the rain brought just added to the fun of the weekend.

So as the rain set in we decided to visit some caves called the Devil’s Arse, so called because of the wet farting noises the river makes when it’s draining away post-flood. Unfortunately we didn’t get to hear the cave’s flatulence, but we did have a very interesting cave guide. She was magnificent to say the least!

Anyway, we got some cool photos, so if you’re interested have yourself a look.

Kings Bromley’s Burning

July 18th, 2006

I work in a little village just outside of Lichfield called Kings Bromley. Usually it’s a sleepy little place, the local pub only opens 4 days a week. But yesterday afternoon, I looked up from my desk to see this…

Kings Bromley Fire

Within minutes our usually quiet little lane had become packed with cars and people all clammering to get a look at what apparently was a major event for Kings Bromley. By now the fire had spread beyond what you can see in the photo, but I decided that if I didn’t get out now, I may never leave. Not because of the fire (although it was massive, and the noise it made was awesome) but just the shear volume of people.

When I (eventually) pulled on to the main road, and made my way back along past the fire there was about 20 cars stopped trying to get a glimpse of what was going on. By now there were about 6 fire engines, plus some guy with a vat of water on a trailer (I dunno what he thought he could do with that).

This morning there was no sign of the festival like atmosphere of last night, just a sad smouldering mess in the top field. Still, I guess the ground will be mega fertile now…

Fire: Aftermath

Update: As the fire damaged the power-lines, I got the afternoon off!

Design With Passion

July 11th, 2006

Yesterday we launched the new trinity website (or at least the 90% complete version). Along with some new brochures this makes up the first wave of our long awaited re-brand.

Design With Passion the new trinity website

Having now been in Kings Bromley for a little over a year, and with things going well for us, trinity design are ready to push our services to new customers. As far as the website goes, it’s of course a mash up xhtml transitional, css, javascript and a LOT of image replacement.

Rather than going for a full-blown technical site, we’ve opted for an extended version of the brochure, showing off our work in the print, marketing and web sectors fairly equally. There are plans in the pipeline for more dedicated web stuff, but for now I’m just pleased that we’ve finally got rid of the “pastures new” page.

Anyway, feel free to take a look, and feedback is always welcome!

5 Years Old, erm, Yesterday!

July 10th, 2006

according to the Wayback Machine roobottom dot com is 5 years old, erm, yesterday! Given my lack of posting lately, it’s surprising I remembered at all, but being just a single day late is pretty good going I think.

While we’re on the subject of posting, give Steve’s Webcam a look, you may at first glance think “this is just a webcam of a random back garden” and you’d probably be right, but if you’re into piles of wood or indeed when he does get the archives working on the offical site you can probably spot me getting out of the car at around 3.30pm yesterday (9th July)… Then you’ll, you know, love it.

OK, sorry, but that’s it again for now. Why? Simply because I don’t feel like writing much at the moment. I know I must be disappointing litterely tens of fans, but you guys will have to cope without me for a while. sorry.

Dudes: Dunked

June 19th, 2006

I know I said I was taking a short break, and I still am, but this is just a short break from the short break to bring you this one post…

It was an amazing privilege to see four people I know and respect get baptised. For those of you that don’t know, the idea behind baptism is as a declaration of faith. It says that you’ve chosen to follow the message of Jesus, and symbolises new life, basically you believe and get dunked! Maybe you should see what answers.com has to say about it.

A brilliant day for all involved! If you’re interested (probably only if you were there), you can see ALL the photo’s I (and whoever had my camera) took. Feel free to help yourself to the ones you want. You can find them here.

A Short Break

June 13th, 2006

I’m taking a short break from writing. I’m just feeling particularly uninspired at the moment, and anything I could bring you would just be for the sake of, and sub-standard.

I’ll still be adding photos and live links so keep an eye on them. Thanks for every one’s support and comments over the last year or so, It’s made it all worth it. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to restore usual service ASAP.

Today

May 31st, 2006

Today I was reminded again of 1 Corinthians 13, verses 4 - 7 especially.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

It never says it’s easy, never an instant happily ever after, but always striving. Christian or not, I hope that these words are universally true.

Phew!

May 30th, 2006

Last night I got in rather late and tiered from driving the 200 miles back from Katie’s gaf ‘daan sarf’. Before going to bed, I decided to check my email. Amongst the 1000’s of mail from fans and such, nestled one from ebay informing me that I had a new message from another member. Blurry eyed, I clicked on the link and proceeded to enter my username and password. Ok, I admit it, this was universally stupid.

I didn’t actually think any more of this until today, when I got two emails that actually were from ebay confirming my new listings of a couple of shiny brand new power mac G5’s. “Oh *****” I thought.

Luckily the very nice customer care people sorted it all out for me, and I’ve changed ALL my passwords on everything so those nasty people can’t pull another fast one. Just shows, you can never be too careful.
