Explore Wordpress Archives in a new Way

October 1st, 2007 8

One of the biggest parts of the recent upgrades was a revolutionary new way to explore the Roobottom archives.

Instead of the standard Wordpress list of archive months, the Archives display a full list of posts in a kind of pseudo calendar view. In this way, it’s easy to browse back through the years and take in the wonder and beauty of roobottom through the ages.

But now, even more goodness. I’ve integrated my Flickr photos in with the archives, so that each time you visit you’ll see a random picture for each month (if there are pictures for that month). You can even link directly to the full Flickr archive.

Oh, and I’ve updated the comment system to give you a little more feedback. It hopefully will put an end to the confusion over comments being held in moderation.

So what next? I’ve made upgrades galore, but it’s stuff that I wanted and I thought was cool. But what do you want? Do you even care? Here’s a few ideas I had to kick off.

  1. An easier (but still spam-proof) way to comment
  2. Monthly Video Blogs (my face and voice coming at ya)
  3. More fun with the Archives.
  4. Writing a WP plugin to make the Archives available to all

Here are my suggestions:

* Get rid of that damn star on the logo
* Improve the navigation
* Make the archives into a MT plug-in so that I can steal the design from you easier ;-)

Looking good Jon - are we going to see continual iteration on this site now - I sure hope so!

Woo, woo, woo!

Not liking the conformation text that appears as a floating div however. My first thought was that this was broken.

Your getting too fancy for you own good! I would have it in the page somewhere - where users expect it to be.

Hey Paul. Knew you wouldn’t like the conformation thing - I’ve have been worried if you did! It may go through a few more changes!

As for making a MT plugin, I’d just suggest you switch to Wordpress.

Whoops! Just noticed a bug! These comments aren’t being ordered properly now are they? Will be fixed when I have 5 mins.

Hi. Via Google I found your site and I think your archive really looks stunning.

I was wondering if you created the WP-plugin you mentioned in your post. And otherwise, maybe you could share the source of your archive with me, so I could use that of my own archive-page?

Thanks in advanced.
