Win a £25 iTunes Music Card

April 28th, 2006

You’re giving away what? Yes, that’s right! You could be the owner of a shiny new Music Card pumped full of £25 worth of credit. All I want you to do is design me a new footer.

A New Footer?

Yes, ever since the design re-launch the footer has been a kind of work in progress. In it’s current state, it’s simply functional - I’d hardly call it beautiful. But looks aren’t everything, a footer should be the work horse of any decent blog, linking to things that’re going to pull in traffic left right and center. So then, these are the things that I want from my footer…

  • Good Looks - In a word - Stunning (obviously fitting in with the rest of the site)
  • A link to my CC licence
  • A link to Wordpress.org
  • A link to lloydyweb
  • I have two ‘traffic’ links on here at the moment, I kinda want to keep the technoranki…
  • Anything else you can think of that is essential for a good footer
  • Valid xhtml 1.0 Transitional

So I’ll be judging all entries (assuming I get any) on their design AND functionality. Bonus points for original ideas, or integrating (good) third party tools.

The prize, the deadline and all that gumph

The prize is a £25 iTunes Music Card for use in the UK store (sorry guys from other countries). Feel free to enter if you’re not from the UK, I can still send you the card, use it if you can. I’ll be judging all the entries, and my decision is final. Closing date for entries is 28th June 2006, and the winner will be announced on this site a week later (5th July 2006).

All images, code and anything else that goes with your entry becomes my intellectual property. You agree to to all these terms when you enter. Nothing scary, just want to make sure no one can come back demanding money for using their design, cos that’s just mean.

Ok, ok, so how do I enter?

Look at the html / css that currently make up the footer (easy for those in the know), and design something spectacular. Zip it all up and e-mail it to makeMeAFooter(at)roobottom.com.

I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

New Year Re-design

January 4th, 2006

The Lego People Are Coming!

A new year is upon us (you may have noticed). And as regular visitors will know (guess this mean Paul) things are looking a bit different. But, with any live re-design, it’s a messy business. So this is where this post comes in. I need to test that my css’ll cover a multitude of posting sins. Feel free to ignor the next bit…

Sometimes we want make things bold or italic. Other times i’ll have said something then want to cross it out.

  • This is a list
  • It’s not orderd
  • But that’s cool
  1. This is another list
  2. And this one is orderd
  3. Rockin or what!

This is a blockquote

And that’s about it I think! Enjoy.

Geekdom

December 2nd, 2005

Yes, I am a fully paid up, registered, nerd. But, I feel I have recently been remiss in my nerd duties. For example, it’s been ages since I’ve posted anything on the diary, or done any kind of design… but dare I say it, it’s time… I just need to get the bug again, the design bug. I’ve been doing some really nice stuff at work lately (even though I do say so myself) and I think it’s time I brought some of my new skills to bear on roobotom dot com.

Don’t worry Lloydy, I’ll also spend some time on the joint projects we’ve talked about….

That is all.

I Heart Blix

September 9th, 2005

I realise it’s been entirely too long since I wrote a post that was remotely geeky (they’ve all been quite nerdy, but that’s something entirely different). So the more observant of you my have realised the diary looking a little different. That’s because I’m now using the very beautiful, very elegant Blix theme for word press. I will do a proper rdc header when I get the chance, but until then, you can enjoy the diary working properly at long last.

Evening Surf

The other thing I wanted to mention while I’m on my geek rant is Flickr, which is where I now host all of my photographs. Go check them out, if you know me and I’ve rudely shoved a camera in your face, I’ve probably even more rudely up-loaded them to the internet for all to see!

That is all.

Useless Buttons

August 25th, 2005

Here it comes then, the first post for a month and it’s about buttons? Yes, I could give you a whole host of deep and meaningful about life, the cosmos and everything but to be quite honest I’ve started to bore myself with the current stuff that’s clogging up my head. So it’s the buttons or nothing.

The more observant of you will have noticed a whole host of buttons now at the top of the page. Where do they go? What do they do? I hear you cry, well let me tell you. A long time ago in a land far away there lived a race of tiny people, lets call them the Frits. The Frits spent all of their days frollecking in the fields by day and doing other such things by night. But one particular Frit was not satisfied with his lot in life, he didn’t much care for the constant frollecking.

So one day the little Frit set off, his most prised possessions in a little red back upon his back. He walked up hill and over dale all the time carry his little red bag upon his back. Whenever he came to a turn in the road he would bend down, open the little red bag and leave a little red ribbon under a stone or tied around a branch. He did this so if he wanted to he could find his way back home.

On he trekked, up hill and over dale all the time carrying his little red bag upon his back and leaving his ribbons under stones or tied around branches. Then one day he reached a clearing where a crocodile killed him and ate him all up. The end.

So you see what I’m saying with this and the buttons? Sometimes it’s best not to know. I hope you enjoyed that waste of time.

You can now download the rdc* theme for Word Press inspired by the design of this diary. I’ve set up a new blog styled by the new theme, and you’ll be able to download it from there. Happy Word Pressing!

UPDATE
You should now download the new version (0.4), check out the theme blog for the latest updates.
